What is Cone Crusher Main Frame?

The cone crusher main frame is the key load-bearing structure of crushing machines and the most essential part of the cone crusher. If any dimension is out of specification, stress will spread unevenly within the frame. This will trigger cracks, deformation and unexpected stops. The economic losses caused by such failures are often far greater than the cost of a new main frame.

Most cone crushers contains both upper and lower frame (topshell and bottomshell). The replacement frames are casted first, then be machined and finished to meet the required tolerance and fit on the cone crusher.

Upper Frame

What is Top Shell (Upper Frame)?

The Upper Frame forms the upper section of the split main frame. It features a large outer flange and internal cavity space.

Core Functions

  1. The inner cavity provides installation space for adjustment ring, bowl assembly and concave liner.
  2. Its bottom flange connects securely to the Lower Frame to build an enclosed main frame structure.
  3. Withstands reaction forces generated during crushing, and keeps the upper crushing components well aligned for stable operation.
Lower Frame

What is Bottom Shell (Lower Frame)?

The Lower Frame acts as the lower base of the full main frame, generally designed as a cylindrical heavy casting.

Core Functions

  1. Houses key transmission components including main shaft, eccentric assembly, bevel gear set and thrust bearing.
  2. Reserved side flange for mounting the countershaft gearbox, where power enters the crusher.
  3. Serves as the base foundation of the whole cone crusher, supporting the entire top shell and all internal equipment.
