Carbide TIP for VSI TIP in VSI Crusher
In a VSI Crusher, the rotor tip—also called the tip—is one of the most important wear parts. It works under high-speed impact and severe abrasion, so its wear life directly affects crushing efficiency and maintenance cost. Carbide plays a vital role in the VSI TIP. High-quality Carbide TIP can greatly improve wear resistance and extend the service life of the rotor tip.
We mainly supply two carbide grades for VSI TIP applications: G6 and G15.
G6 carbide has high hardness and good wear resistance. It is suitable for working conditions where abrasion is the main wear factor and long wear life is required.
G15 carbide contains about 15% Mo (molybdenum), which gives it better toughness and impact resistance. In many European countries, G15 carbide is widely used in VSI TIP applications, especially where impact and cracking risks are higher.
There are two main ways to fix carbide in the rotor tip:

Adhesive / glue bonding
This is a common fixing method. In Metso Barmac series and Sandvik CV series VSI Crushers, the rotor tips usually use glue to fix the carbide. -
Copper brazing
Copper brazing provides a stronger joint. For unsupported structures or special working conditions, copper brazing is often needed to fix the carbide securely and prevent carbide loss or breakage.
The choice between G6 and G15, and between glue bonding and copper brazing, depends on the material being crushed, the rotor design, the impact level, and the customer’s working conditions.
