Toggle Plate
Toggle Plate is a simple & low-cost but very important part of jaw crusher.It is usually made of cast iron, and it is used to hold the lower part of the jaw in position, it also serves as a safety mechanism for the entire jaw.
If something that the jaw crusher cannot crush gets into the crushing chamber accidentally and it cannot pass through the jaw, the toggle plate will crush and prevent the whole machine from further damage.
Mechanical Link and Force Transmitter: The toggle plate connects the bottom of the movable jaw to a toggle beam or the rear frame. As the eccentric shaft drives the movable jaw in an elliptical motion, the toggle plate acts as a pivotal brace. It converts the vertical component of the jaw’s motion into the powerful crushing force applied to the material trapped between the jaw dies.
Overload Protection – The “Sacrificial” Component: This is the toggle plate’s most crucial safety role. If an uncrushable object (e.g., tramp iron) enters the crushing chamber, immense stress builds up. The toggle plate is intentionally designed as the weakest mechanical link. In such events, it will bend or, more commonly, fracture (snap). This deliberate failure prevents catastrophic damage to more expensive and critical components like the pitman, bearings, or the crusher frame itself. Replacing a broken toggle plate is far simpler and more cost-effective than repairing major structural damage.
